Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews has had his fair share of struggles over the past couple of seasons, but it seems like he is finally getting mojo back.

Last season, Auston Matthews faced lots of criticism for only managing a 33-goal season after having 69 goals the previous campaign.
It was a bad year for Matthews as he had to deal with an injury for the entire season. We still don't know what the injury was or its severity.
However, what we do know is that the Toronto Maple Leafs were worse off because of his lack of production.
Going into this season, there were fears that Matthews would continue the trend. In the first 10 games, we were seeing a continuation from last year. However, it seems like the captain has finally turned a corner.

Auston Matthews is elevating his game

He has scored goals in three straight games and now has eight tallies in the first 14 games. It's a better pace than last season, and now that he is getting his points up, this could lead to more good things in the future.
All the brutal preseason rankings, the negative talk after literally just 3 games into the season, and the questions about his game without Marner - all shut down.

8 goals and 12 points in 14 games, goals in 3 straight, with his shot and skating looking as dangerous as ever.
At the end of the day, Matthews still needs to put in the work. Nothing is guaranteed for this Maple Leafs team.
However, if Auston Matthews can get back into that 40-50 goal range, then there are going to be a lot of happy fans out there. It also means the Leafs are probably winning games.
In the last three games that Matthews has scored, the Leafs have won. That means there is a correlation between the captain scoring and the team stacking Ws.
Only time will tell whether or not Auston Matthews can continue his success and have a season to remember.
