A few weeks ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs got decimated by the Florida Panthers in Game 7 of their second-round series, and fans want answers.
The Florida Panthers are in the Stanley Cup Finals right now, and they are just two games away from winning their second title in a row.
Overall, this feels extra bad if you are a Leafs fan, thanks to the fact that Toronto was the only team to have these Panthers on the ropes.
Lane Lambert on the Toronto Maple Leafs' failure
In a new article from
Mark Masters of TSN, former Leafs assistant coach Lane Lambert spoke about the collapse.
He is now the head coach of the Seattle Kraken, and while speaking to Masters, he noted there were multiple compounding issues that led to the loss.
You have different moments in playoff series that you look back on and you say, 'Oh gee, maybe if this moment didn't happen, it'd be a different story,' and I think we have some of those moments.
(Anthony) Stolarz getting hurt, the overtime-winning goal by (Brad) Marchand in Game 3 to stop us from going up 3-0. I thought we were well prepared for what they had. Clearly, we were in a position to win, and just didn't get it done.
As for more specifics, Lambert noted that Craig Berube and Brad Treliving are the best people to talk to about that.
I'm sure you've asked Chief. I'm sure you've asked [Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving], all those guys.
I think they probably would've given you a good answer on that. I don't want to get into that.
Lambert has every right to avoid the question, after all, he is now coaching a new team and has a very difficult task at hand.
We wish the former Leafs coach the best of luck going forward,
