Anaheim Ducks Reportedly Preparing Absurd Offer for Mitch Marner

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is about to become the most popular man in the NHL, and teams like the Anaheim Ducks are getting a bit silly about him.
If he were to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs, his next contract would probably be worth North of $100 million. However, other teams are still willing to drop huge AAVs to bring him into their franchises.
The Los Angeles Kings, Florida Panthers, and Las Vegas Golden Knights have seemingly been at the top of the list as far as mutual interest is concerned.
How much are the Anaheim Ducks offering Mitch Marner?
Meanwhile, a new report from
James Mirtle suggests the Anaheim Ducks are attempting to pay Marner more than
Leon Draisaitl, who makes $14 million per season.
The Anaheim Ducks could potentially be the high bidder for Mitch Marner this summer, with an offer of an AAV north of $14 million - for reference, the NHL's highest earner per season starting next year is the Oilers' Leon Draisaitl at $14 million.
The major issue with this is that
Mikko Rantanen just got $12 million per season from the Dallas Stars, and Rantanen is a more proven performer in the postseason.
Meanwhile, Draisaitl is one of the five best players in the entire NHL. Marner isn't even close to that level. A $14 million move from the Ducks would be an act of pure desperation.
Having said that, these next few weeks are going to be very interesting as the forward has to officially decide whether or not he is testing free agency.
Although at this point, it would be a major shock to everyone if he doesn't at least consider all of his options.
