One of the biggest questions of the offseason is whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs can sign-and-trade Mitch Marner in order to save their free agency.

At this point, everyone seems to have come to the conclusion that Mitch Marner is going to leave the Toronto Maple Leafs on July 1st and go somewhere else.
Although the superstar winger has yet to confirm this information, it is just a hunch that a lot of fans have right now, and they have it for very good reason.
Having said that, the Toronto Maple Leafs need to find a replacement for Marner. Moreover, the team is interested in exploring a sign-and-trade.

Can the Toronto Maple Leafs trade Mitch Marner?

The only team that could really make that happen is the Las Vegas Golden Knights. One report stated that the Knights would only give up a second-round pick. However, it was also made clear that the Knights may have to trade William Karlsson to dump some salary cap.
Karlsson currently has two years left on his contract and makes $5.9 million per season. If the Golden Knights were to bring in Marner, they wouldn't have a lot of cap space.
However, despite their financial situation, Karlsson is off the table, and the Leafs are out of luck. This comes courtesy of Elliotte Friedman, who addressed the situation on '32 Thoughts.'
So, again. I always want stress this, for those who follow hockey, there's a lot of craziness going on and it's hard to separate fact from fiction. I'm not fighting anyone who has his name out there but I don't know where it's coming from.

But I'm getting a lot of push back from teams about Karlsson. I don't know about Vegas but it's always possible they are talking to one or two specific teams about him I haven't found.

But I've asked a few people about Karlsson and they are under the impression he's not available and in a couple of cases, they asked about it and were told no. While they didn't explicitly state that, that's the vibe I was getting.

There are only 10-15 guys who are untouchable in the league but I asked around about Karlsson and the people I speak to told me they had no indication Vegas was willing to do it. If he is available, there isn't a situation I have found yet.
Throughout his decade-long career, Karlsson has 446 points in 738 games (179G, 267A). However, he is on the decline. Last season, he played 53 games and only had 9 goals and 29 points.
This is a far cry from his 30 goals and 30 assists in 70 games from the year before.
Whatever the case may be, things have gotten more complicated for the Maple Leafs, and there is no telling what Brad Treliving will do to remedy the situation.
