With Mitch Marner just a few weeks away from potentially leaving the Toronto Maple Leafs, there are some major rumors involving a sign-and-trade.
While the change of scenery might do the forward some good, it will also come with one less year on his new deal. Only the Leafs can sign him to eight years. Other teams can only sign him to seven.
Consequently, there has been chatter about a potential sign-and-trade, in which the Leafs would facilitate Marner's departure, with the stipulation that they get assets in return.

As for the assets that would be involved in such a deal, there have been some unique theories. Some have involved
Carter Verhaeghe and
Niko Mikkola.
To Toronto:
(F) Carter Verhaeghe
(D) Niko Mikkola
To Florida:
(F) Mitch Marner (signs 8-year extension at $14M)
This is going to be a fascinating offseason for Marner and the Leafs. Only time will tell what both sides decide and whether or not it is cordial.
