This offseason, the Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to sign some high-level talent, and there is one veteran forward in free agency who could attract the legendary franchise.
Max Pacioretty would love to return to the Maple Leafs this summer, but he has a lot of wear and tear on his body. After all, he was injured for much of last season.
Free agency is right around the corner. Having said that, one insider believes the Leafs might be looking out West to the Edmonton Oilers.
According to Frank Seravalli of the
Daily Faceoff Live, Corey Perry is emerging as a name that the Maple Leafs would have a ton of interest in. He could be a solid replacement for Pacioretty and would only cost $1 million.
Perry played 81 games last season and managed a total of 19 goals and 11 assists for 30 points. He still has a ton of gas left in the tank, and the Stanley Cup Playoffs proved that.
While the forward has expressed interest in returning to the Oilers, Seravalli noted that the team has yet to actually extend an offer his way.
At 40 years old, Perry is still capable of producing at a decent level. Furthermore, he can give you 65 games per season, which is impressive.
Unfortunately, he has also gone through a lot of Stanley Cup heartbreak over these past few years, and one has to wonder if he would be willing to live through it all over again in a Leaf jersey.
Whatever the case may be, the Maple Leafs are in a decent position right now, and they have unfinished business with Perry, as they could have signed him years ago, but Kyle Dubas dropped the ball.
Now, the Leafs have new management and they have an opportunity to right some of their past wrongs.
