Toronto Maple Leafs to Ask Morgan Rielly to Make Impossible Decision for Aaron Ekblad

The rumors surrounding Morgan Rielly and the Toronto Maple Leafs have gotten out of control as of late, and now, they are starting to involve free agent Aaron Ekblad.
Morgan Rielly did not have the greatest season with the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2024-25, and that has been very well-documented at this point.
He only had 41 points in 82 games, after a season in which he had 58 points in 72 games. It was a disappointment, and he did not fare much better in the playoffs.
Now, Aaron Ekblad is the shiny new defensive toy on the market, and the Toronto Maple Leafs have been rumored to be interested in acquiring him.
Are the Toronto Maple Leafs trading Morgan Rielly?
Of course, doing so would come at a cost, and not one that the Leafs could absorb lightly. In fact, having Morgan Rielly and Ekblad on the same team could create some issues.
According to Nick Kypreos, the Leafs are interested in tendering an offer to Ekblad; however, they would only do so if Rielly waives his no-move clause.

Rielly's no-move clause has been a huge narrative throughout the last few weeks, but based on current reports, it seems as though Rielly would prefer not to leave.
This is creating a real conundrum for the Maple Leafs right now, and there is no telling whether or not it is something they will be able to handle going forward.
Whatever the case may be, Leafs fans just want to see some sort of resolution, and they want the team to actually improve.
In order for that to happen, they may just have to force Rielly's hand, which is unfortunate, but that is the business.
