Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving is looking to make a trade for a top-six forward, and there is one winger on the Philadelphia Flyers who could be good.
The Maple Leafs have lacked offense at times this season, and they have lacked consistency among their top lines. Finding a winger to play with Matthews has been almost impossible.
According to Anthony Di Marco of The Daily Faceoff, there is one winger who could very well prove to be a great trade candidate for the Leafs.
That forward is Owen Tippett, who is in the middle of an eight-year deal worth just shy of $50 million. Overall, he is a guy who can give you 50 points in a season, and he is still improving his game.
Speculatively speaking, Leafs forward William Nylander is the exact type of player that would make Tippett excel. Could he end up on Toronto's radar, given its need for another top-six forward?
At this point, it is clear that the Maple Leafs need to change something. Furthermore, the Philadelphia Flyers are likely to be sellers at the deadline, which could give credence to a Tippett trade.
Treliving has a lot to figure out right now, and we're sure he is working hard at figuring out exactly what must be done here.
Building a winning team is not easy, and for the Leafs, things will only become more difficult as the season goes on.
