David Kampf Reportedly Threatens to Terminate His Contract as Maple Leafs Situation Hits New Low

Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf is upset about his current situation, and according to Elliotte Friedman, things just got a whole lot worse.
Over the weekend, a report went out claiming that Toronto Maple Leafs forward David Kampf is now refusing to travel with the Toronto Marlies.
Overall, this comes in the midst of trade rumors involving the forward. The Maple Leafs seem ready to part ways with the forward, especially since they do not have room for him on their NHL roster.
However, the relationship is starting to get extremely sour, and there is this sense that things could continue to get worse if it's not resolved.

In fact, a new report from Elliotte Friedman suggests that Kampf is now taking a scorched-earth approach to the situation.
Friedman revealed that Kampf's teammates on the Marlies have been left with the idea that he wants to terminate his deal and walk away from the Leafs altogether.
I don't know exactly what was said or how it was communicated, but Kampf did leave players with the Marlies with the impression that he was going to terminate his contract.
This would allow him to get the correct market rate while also potentially playing for an NHL roster. No team wants him at his current cap hit. However, if he had a clean slate, then perhaps a team would give him a chance.
Or, he could simply go and play overseas. Plenty of players go and do this when their NHL hopes reach a point of no return.
It's hard to say what is next for Kampf, but we can all agree on the fact that this has gone on for a long time, and it is starting to weigh on everyone involved.
Hopefully, the Maple Leafs and Kampf can resolve this before things get any uglier on both ends.
