With their win against the Carolina Hurricanes tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs now find themselves closer than ever to taking the Atlantic Division once and for all.
Today was a monumental day for the
Toronto Maple Leafs as they were able to knock off the Carolina Hurricanes by a score of 4-1.
Had the Lightning lost today, the Leafs would have clinched. However, a blowout against the Buffalo Sabres ultimately kept them in it.
Toronto Maple Leafs on the verge of Atlantic Division supremacy
With two games to go, the Maple Leafs have a four-point lead and the only way they lose is if they get zero points over the final two games while the Lightning get four.
Essentially, if the Lightning lose a point, the Leafs clinch. If the Leafs gain a point, they also clinch.
The Maple Leafs now need just one more point to clinch the division and secure a matchup against Ottawa.
Tampa Bay is the only team that can still catch them and currently leads Buffalo by three.
Remaining games:
🔹TOR: vs. Buffalo and Detroit
🔹TB : vs. Florida and the Rangers
This has been a great season for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the fans have benefitted tremendously from all of this.
Now, they are likely to play the Ottawa Senators in the first round and that would be monumental for a lot of reasons. Fans want to see the Battle of Ontario.
Only time will tell whether or not this would be a good matchup for the Leafs. They struggled against them mightily in the regular season.
That doesn't mean all is lost. The Leafs can still prove people wrong and based on their defense this season, they appear to be built for the postseason.
