Toronto Maple Leafs forward prospect Sam McCue is looking for a new challenge in the hockey world, and he has made a major announcement regarding his career.
Sam McCue was drafted in the 7th round by the Toronto Maple Leafs back in 2024 as a bit of a project forward who may or may not ever make it to the NHL.
At the end of the day, when you are drafted in the seventh round, your chances of making it in the big time are slim to none. However, the Leafs have hope with McCue.
This season, McCue is experiencing his final year of eligibility in the OHL, and next year, he will embark on the next chapter of his hockey career.
On Wednesday, he made an announcement regarding his career that will certainly be of great interest to the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Instead of looking to play in the NHL system, whether that be the AHL or the ECHL, McCue has committed to Bowling Green University.
For a player taken in the seventh round of the draft, it makes sense to go to University, as this will allow you to play with grown men and develop your skills at a reasonable pace.
Whether or not Sam McCue makes the NHL remains up in the air. But for now, it is clear that his attempts to do so have been delayed by a few years.
The Maple Leafs already have prospects who are a lot more ready for the bright lights of the NHL, so they probably aren't too worried about any of this.
Regardless, it is interesting to see what the team's future stars are doing with their junior careers early on.
