The Toronto Maple Leafs are negotiation a new deal with Mitch Marner, and it seems as though Craig Berube as well as Brad Treliving have made their strategy clear.
Mitch Marner has been having a fantastic season so far with the Maple Leafs as he has secured a total of 42 points in 32 games.
Interestingly enough, the Leafs forward is in a contract year and is fighting to make as much money as humanly possible.
Mitch Marner contract situation weighs on the Toronto Maple Leafs
"There's regular communication and dialogue between the Maple Leafs' front office and Mitch Marner's agent, Darren Ferris, but the focus from the top, including president Brendan Shanahan, GM Brad Treliving, and head coach Craig Berube, has been to keep things quiet and let Marner and the team focus on their game.
As the calendar turns to 2025, however, time will be of the essence, and clear direction will soon be needed."
Needless to say, Maple Leafs fans should not expect a deal to get done, anytime soon.
Instead, this will likely drag on for a few months, and only time will tell whether or not it finishes positively.
Perhaps the team is just waiting for the salary cap to be officially announced before making a proper offer. One could say that Marner is doing the same.
Either way, Marner is integral to the success of the Maple Leafs, and they would be a lot better off if they signed him, once and for all.
