Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving is already making some moves as it has been revealed today that the team signed free agent defenseman
John Prokop.
Sounds like Toronto is going to be signing
John Prokop, a free-agent defenceman from NCAA Union College
Vegas Development Camp last summer. 24 in May -- 27 points in 36 games this season
This is a huge move for the Toronto Maple Leafs who have been looking for a defenseman who can move the puck and also contribute on offense.
John Prokop stats with Union College
In 36 games this season, Prokop has a total of 27 points which includes eight goals and 19 assists.
In fact, this is a bit of a regression from last season when the defenseman was able to score 35 points in 36 games. This is a player who clearly has a lot of talent and teams around the league are going to be disappointed that it was the Leafs who got him.
This is going to be particularly bad news for the Las Vegas Golden Knights who just had a defenseman stolen from them.
While Prokop will only be part of the Maple Leafs next season, it will be interesting to see if he makes the team or will be sent down to the AHL instead. This is going to be a great opportunity, no matter what.
Either way, we wish John Prokop the best of luck as he enters this new era of his life playing for one of the league's most historic teams.
