The Toronto Maple Leafs are looking to fill out the Toronto Marlies roster with solid players, and there is one offensive defenseman who just earned a new deal.
One thing that the Toronto Maple Leafs need desperately right now is an offensive defenseman who can move the puck and get you points.
In 2020, they drafted a young defenseman with potential, William Villeneuve. Now, he is 23 years old, and after a few seasons with the Toronto Marlies, he seems poised to take a leap.
Last season, Villeneuve had 40 points in 55 games, which is very impressive. While he has yet to make his NHL debut, there is a sense that this will be coming soon.

In fact, Villeneuve's NHL hopes just took a significant jump, as it was revealed on Tuesday that the defenseman signed a one-year, two-way deal with the organization.
While it is assumed that Villeneuve will begin the season with the Toronto Marlies, there is a world in which he is able to get himself to the Maple Leafs.
Of course, this would have to be through injuries, but still, Villeneuve has worked his way up the ladder, and now, he is a huge opportunity in front of him.
Having a young, right-handed defenseman who can score points is kind of a cheat code, and it certainly negates the need for someone like Erik Karlsson.
Whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs deploy Villeneuve at all this season, still remains to be seen. But whatever the case, it is exciting to have him locked in.
The Maple Leafs will be looking to make even more moves over the coming weeks. Fans are practically begging for it.
