With the offseason coming to a close, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been looking for some extra firepower, and the Anaheim Ducks had that in Mason McTavish.
Mason McTavish is a young player who has proven to be exceptionally talented ever since being drafted third overall back in 2021.
Last season with the Anaheim Ducks, the forward had an impressive 22-goal season, and he even had over 50 points for the first time in his career.
However, he has yet to sign a deal with the team, and he remains an RFA. This has led to offer sheet conversations, and there have also been some rumors about him being traded.
Toronto Maple Leafs lose out on Mason McTavish
As it turns out, McTavish is not going anywhere right now. According to Frank Seravalli, an offer sheet is not going to happen.
Meanwhile, a trade probably won't happen either, as the Ducks want to keep the forward for the long haul.
He was a hot topic...a guy who I think could potentially use a change of scenery; I don't think that's ultimate going to happen...don't see him as an offer sheet candidate
While the Ducks haven't had much success as of late, their hope is that they become a playoff contender, which will, in turn, force their current crop of young guys to want to stay.
Of course, it is not going to be easy, as the Western Conference is filled to the brim with some talented teams that can go incredibly far.
Ultimately, if you are a fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs, you are probably a bit disappointed about McTavish, especially since the team hasn't made any moves in weeks.
Regardless, a McTavish trade was a long shot to begin with. Now, the team can focus on other matters, like potentially trading Nick Robertson or signing Jack Roslovic.
