Toronto Maple Leafs Trade Target Hints That He's Available

New York Islanders center Brock Nelson has been on the radar of a lot of teams, including the Toronto Maple Leafs who are ready to make a big move.
As he prepares to represent Team USA at the Four Nations Face-Off, Nelson welcomed the break from trade speculation.
"It's a mental break. It's something you kind of put on pause a little bit just being here."
What can happen to Brock Nelson if the contract talks change?
While Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently stated that contract contract negotations between Brock Nelson and the Islanders are begun, the veteran center knows that things can change quickly in the NHL.
"I know there's a lot of speculation from outside and different things, and people have already decided for me a couple times what's going to happen. It's all outside, and we'll handle everything, and everything will sort itself out."
Nelson's frustration on trade rumors was evident as he said that people will have to wait and see how things will finish.
"I want what's best for me, family, team and everything. So, there's a lot of factors that go into it. I know everybody kind of wants an answer right now, but that's not how the world works. You don't always get what you want."
Brad Treliving remains active in his search for a center and Brock Nelson is being a prime target for them.
However, the Leafs are exploring alternatives like St. Louis Blues captain Brayden Schenn, but the Blues' high asking price complicates negotiations for him.
Other names in the mix include Philadelphia's Scott Laughton, Buffalo's Dylan Cozens and Seattle Kraken Yanni Gourde.
