Former Toronto Maple Leafs players Jay Rosehill and Kris Versteeg are absolutely done with the Core 4 which has been terrible when closing out series.

Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner have been slacking over the past couple of games and it has left the Toronto Maple Leafs in a bad position.

Auston Matthews & Mitch Marner playoff failures

Recently, Jay Rosehill laced into the Core 4 and explained just how annoyed he is at watching this team fail whenever the games become truly important.
"Every other time of the year, they're great, but when that time specific time comes to step on their throats and bury the dagger... no where to be found. There's no way around it, it's not my opinion, it's a fact.

They're 1-13 in deciding games. That's where your stars come up and win the game, they're 0-30 on the power play, all that talent... and our star players never do it, and I mean never. I'm not saying they won't or they might/might not or they haven't a few times. They never do it. That's the only difference."
As for former Leaf Kris Versteeg, he is just as upset with Core 4. However, he is also putting the blame on the coaching staff for not holding guys accountable.
"It's not only the players' fault, it's the coaches' fault for no accountability there to do the right things in order for those small details to add up to hurt you.

Maybe if you put Mitch on a different line for a couple of shifts, or if you play Auston on a different line to get them a little more physically engaged. It's just monotonous. It's the same thing over and over... but, if you want to win a Stanley Cup, you gotta make guys uncomfortable."
Only time will tell whether or not the Core 4 can get it together tonight in Game 6 against the Ottawa Senators.
A loss in this match would be absolutely catastrophic for the team and fans would probably protest in the streets. They must avoid a Game 7.
If there is a Game 7, the Senators would have to be favored as they would have all of the momentum in the world. Only time will tell what happens next.
