Today, the Utah Hockey Club made a grave error on social media by revealing the franchise's new nickname, and you might be surprised by what they chose.
Since entering the
NHL in the Fall, fans have been wanting to know what the Utah Hockey Club will end up calling itself in an official capacity.
Since that time, the team has been trying to choose between a plethora of names including the Utah Outlaws and the Utah Mammoth.
Utah Hockey Club goes with Utah Mammoth
While an announcement was supposed to be made in the Summer, it would appear as though we actually know what the team will be called due to an unfortunate social media error.
According to reporter Cole Bagley, it was revealed that the team's handle on YouTube now reads Utah Mammoth. Whether or not this was a mistake remains to be seen.
However, it all but confirms that this is the name that the team has been trying to go with. Only time will tell if it sticks.
For some fans, this might be an underwhelming finale to the Utah HC name saga. It especially sucks to see this happen in the middle of the NHL Playoffs.
However, for others, this will be some necessary closure to a strenuous chapter. At the end of the day, it will be interesting to see what kind of jerseys we get from the franchise moving forward.
The Mammoth is a cool name that will certainly lend itself well to some unique branding that the NHL has never actually seen before.
We just hope the team can continue to be a success and continues to be embraced by the people of Utah.
