Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is about to be very popular during free agency, and it seems like one Western Conference team is going to great lengths for him.
Mitch Marner is going to have close to half the NHL knocking at his door come July 1st, and he is expected to take his sweet time with the decision.
However, there are some teams that are expected to be odds-on favorites to acquire him. One of those teams is none other than the Las Vegas Golden Knights.
Las Vegas Golden Knights to trade Thomas Hertl
According to reporter Marco D'Amico, the Golden Knights are on the verge of trading Thomas Hertl, who has five years left on his deal at an AAV of $8.1 million.
The Carolina Hurricanes are expected to get involved, although they have yet to do so. There appears to be a snag in the deal. That said, it seems like this is being done to create room for Mitch Marner.
May be a little bit of a snag, but Vegas is indeed in talks for a potential Hertl trade.
The idea is to make cap space for a run at Marner... and then some.
Overall, the Golden Knights have no problem when it comes to going after the best players in the league, and this is a great example of that.
Ultimately, we will have to wait and see whether or not Hertl gets dealt soon or not. But if there is one thing for certain, it is that Vegas is all in on Mitch.
They are a low-tax team, they're a contender, and they provide anonymity to a player who has consistently gotten lost in the grandeur of Toronto.
