Former Hockey Night in Canada legend Don Cherry recently offered a heartbreaking admission about his family and controversial firing from Sportsnet.

Don Cherry is a very controversial figure who has always managed to find a way to make some people upset, regardless of the topic.
Of course, he got himself fired from Sportsnet a few years ago for his "you people" comments that sent shockwaves throughout the hockey world.
However, now, he is putting out a book about himself titled 'The Don Cherry Story' and it is officially coming out on Monday, April 21st

Don Cherry talks Sportsnet firing

The book was written by his daughter Cindy, who passed away last year. In fact, Cherry put out a heartbreaking message about it.
My daughter Cindy wrote a book about our lives as a father and daughter. She jumped right into my firing at Rogers and doesn't hold back. Tragically, just as Cindy was finishing the book, she suddenly passed away. Great job Cindy.
In the book itself, there is a lot of ink spilled about the Sportsnet firing and what truly led up to it. If you are interested in that stuff, it is quite fascinating.
The narrative that Rogers/Sportsnet and Ron (MacLean) put out to the rest of the media was that all Don had to do to keep his job was apologize and he wouldn't. This is what a lot of the corporate media shills and people on social media humped on - why didn't Don just say he's sorry and then he would have gotten back his job?

To me, there was no doubt Rogers wanted dad gone, so they backed him into a corner knowing he wouldn't kneel to their demands. I believe many people knew there was more to the story about dad's firing but didn't bother looking into it and just went with the corporate narrative.

Of course, Cherry remains a controversial figure and you probably won't get to see him in mainstream conversations for very long.
At the end of the day, Sportsnet is done with him and they have completely moved on to something else.
Only time will tell what is next for the former NHL head coach. At this point, it seems like he is fully retired from the broadcasting industry, aside from his podcast.
