While speaking to the media, Marner explained just how much it meant to him to get that assist.
However, in true Mitch fashion, he made sure to pay homage to guys like Jordan Binnington who were fantastic in overtime.
"It felt good, I can't lie. Yeah, I know it felt really good. Got to give big credit to Binnington though. I mean, got a couple of massive saves there in overtime that definitely could have ended the game. So yeah, it felt really good."
Marner then went on to say just how much the win meant to him and that this whole tournament was just a very cool feeling to be part of.
"Relief in a way. A cool feeling. Obviously, you know, it's nothing. Well, I mean, it's something. It's something cool. It's something that, you know, we had to earn and work through and compete against the very high-end players. So it's a cool thing to be able to hoist that. And, you know, like I said, just try to take confidence out of this tournament going in back into Toronto."
Maple Leafs fans would love it if this led to some sort of playoff dominance from Marner and perhaps even Auston Matthews.
At the end of the day, the team has more big-game experience now, and this could benefit them in the postseason.
Overall, you can't help but be happy for Marner and just proud of the Canadian players for laying it all out on the line.
