Team USA forward Matthew Tkachuk suffered an injury against Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off on Saturday night and now, his status is up in the air.
Matthew Tkachuk injury with Team USA
The Americans are locked into the final, however, they do have a game against Sweden coming up and fans are curious about whether or not Tkachuk will be good to go.
Following the injury, Team USA head coach Mike Sullivan gave a status update on Tkachuk, although one that does not bode well for the team.
"Right now, he's being evaluated by our doctors. That's all I can offer. We'll make decisions that we think is best for Matthew and we think is best for our team. Right now, I don't have a lot of information to go on, so it's hard for me to give you more."
It is always hard to get clarity on these injuries in the immediate aftermath of them. So this update should not be a surprise.
Either way, Team USA is not too concerned with Sweden, although it may be in their best interest to let the Swedes win if the Americans believe they would be an easy team to beat in the Final.
If Canada or Finland win their match against one another in regulation, than they advance. However, if Sweden can win in regulation and the other teams win in overtime, then their ticket to the final is punched.
Having said that, we are certainly in for a fascinating chess match that will determine the two teams in the finals.
Hopefully, the tournament is able to continue delivering some iconic moments.
