Dallas Stars Fleece the Carolina Hurricanes as Mikko Rantanen Trade is Made Official

The Dallas Stars wanted Mikko Rantanen in a big way and they ultimately got him for a fairly cheap price and it does not look good for the Carolina Hurricanes.
Trade talks for Mikko Rantanen had stalled earlier this morning as the Dallas Stars were unable to negotiate a new deal with him.
However, about an hour ago, those negotiations began to take off again and it was becoming clear that the deal would become official.

Now, we finally know that the Hurricanes will be receiving in exchange for the superstar forward.
Unfortunately for the Hurricanes, it looks as though they were fleeced with Rantanen going to Dallas for Logan Stankoven and a first-round pick in both 2026 and 2027.
Some smaller pieces will also be going to the Carolina Hurricanes but those have not been finalized at this time.
This is going to be a very hard pill to swallow for the Carolina Hurricanes as they have now lost Martin Necas, Jack Drury, and Mikko Rantanen in the span of just a few weeks.
Meanwhile, there is no telling whether or not they will be able to acquire anyone else at the deadline here.
If you are the Dallas Stars, you are feeling very good as you now have Rantanen locked up for the next eight years at a cost of $12 million per year.
This is a big of a bargain for the superstar winger, especially with the salary cap going up over the next three seasons.
The Dallas Stars are now Stanley Cup contenders while the Hurricanes have gotten much worse.
If you are a Hurricanes fan, you cannot help but be mortified by what an unmitigated disaster this has been for the franchise. Only time will tell if they can ever recover.
