NHL Suspends Florida Panthers Owner Indefinitely Following Social Media Crash Out
Florida Panthers minority owner Doug Cifu was suspended by the NHL on an indefinite basis after some fiery social media posts that were inappropriate.
For those who may not know, Cifu was popping off on social media after Game 4 and eventually made his social media private.
He had gotten into a war of words with a fan over the war in Israel and Palestine, which eventually led to him going private.
His actions were detrimental to the NHL and as a result, the league decided to take action. Now, he must sit down with commissioner Gary Bettman who will decide if he can continue to be an owner.
«The NHL has concluded that Mr. Cifu's X posts were unacceptable and inappropriate,'' the NHL's statement to the Sun read. «As a result, Mr. Cifu has been suspended indefinitely from any involvement with the Club and the NHL. An in-person meeting will be scheduled with Mr. Cifu and the Commissioner at a date to be determined.»
This is all taking place amid the Florida Panthers' second-round series against the
Toronto Maple Leafs.
Ultimately, this is an unwelcomed distraction but if we had to guess, the players do not care about this and some probably don't even realize it is going on.
Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Florida Panthers Game 5
Game 5 between the Panthers and the Maple Leafs is set to go down on Wednesday night in Toronto at the Scotiabank Arena.
Only time will tell who comes out of this series victorious as both teams try to advance to the Eastern Conference Finals.
