The Montreal Canadiens had been looking to trade Carey Price for a while now, but on Friday, they made the move official with the help of a Western Conference team.
Carey Price is one of the greatest goaltenders of his generation, and he will certainly someday find himself in the Hockey Hall of Fame.
Despite being injured, Price has remained on the Montreal Canadiens' payroll, which has caused some cap issues. Over the past few weeks, the team has tried to rectify this.
There are plenty of teams that would take on Price's contract with the means of using him as protection against the cap floor. Teams in the midst of a rebuild are perfect for this kind of move.
Montreal Canadiens trade Carey Price
According to the Canadiens on X, they have traded Carey Price to the San Jose Sharks along with a fifth-round pick in 2026, for defenseman
Gannon Laroque.
This is a major move given the fact that Carey Price is involved, although, from an impact sense, this is as minor as it gets.
Price will not suit up for the San Jose Sharks, and we doubt he will even report to the team. Perhaps only for formalities. But otherwise, he may as well be retired.
At the end of the day, Price will go down as one of the best goalies in the history of the Canadiens franchise, and today marks the end of an era.
Whether or not we see Price at a few Sharks games remains to be seen.
Either way, this is the kind of trade that will have some Canadiens fans in tears, for sentimental purposes.
