Alex Formenton was one of the Hockey Canada five, and as it stands, he is not allowed to play in the NHL, but that could change soon if he is reinstated.
All five players were acquitted, although they have yet to be reinstated by the National Hockey League. In fact, NHL commissioner Gary Bettman has been mostly quiet about whether or not he will allow these men back into the league.
Bettman maintains that all five players must apply for reinstatement. Only then will the NHL consider their cases.
One of the players who could be looking for another chance in the NHL is none other than
Alex Formenton, a former second-round pick of the Ottawa Senators.
Will Alex Formenton return to the NHL?
Formenton last played in the NHL during the 2021-22 season before going to the Swiss League in the midst of the Hockey Canada scandal.
According to a source online, Formenton was spotted on the ice in Toronto this week and is seemingly in the midst of seeking a comeback of sorts.
Hearing Alex Formenton has been skating in Toronto and potentially looking to make a comeback.
At 25 years old, Formenton is still young, and remains a player who could be of use to a team in need. However, signing him would come with loads of controversy.
Not to mention, Formenton needs to apply for reinstatement first, which he has yet to do. Either way, this is going to be an interesting story to watch over the coming weeks.
Only time will tell whether or not the forward will be back on an NHL roster in the near future.
