Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz has played seven of the first eight games of the NHL regular season, and it is proving to be way too much.
Anthony Stolarz was one of the best goalies in the entire NHL last season. However, this year has been a bit hard to stomach.
Through seven games, Stolarz has a record of 2-4-1, with a goals-against average of 3.35 and a save percentage of .885.
Anthony Stolarz needs a break
After last night's game, David Alter of The Hockey News had a somber update on Stolarz, noting that he was icing up his knees following the game.
Head coach Craig Berube acknowledged the workload. Although the sight of Stolarz's knees being iced proves that they may have worked their goaltender so hard that he is on the verge of an injury.
I don't know. I want to wait until I talk to him first, but it's a lot for him. We leaned on him heavy here and it's a lot of games, a lot of hockey he played. So, I'm sure he's tired a little bit.
Tonight, the Leafs are playing the Buffalo Sabres again, and if one thing is for certain, it is that Stolarz should not be playing. The guy needs a break.
Cayden Primeau got a win against the Nashville Predators a couple of weeks ago, and he deserves another opportunity to prove himself.
Whether or not the Leafs can get back on track tonight, is something that still very much remains to be seen.
