Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid has been quiet about signing a new contract with the team, and the Toronto Maple Leafs would love to swoop in.
Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers have been a match made in heaven for about a decade now, although this partnership could be coming to an end soon.
The superstar is set to become a free agent in 2026, and with that in mind, the Oilers are trying to secure McDavid to a new deal as quickly as possible.
However, McDavid has yet to engage in contract talks with the Oilers, which has created lots of anxiety around the organization.
Just a few weeks ago, it seemed like an extension would get done before the start of the season, but now, McDavid's status remains up in the air.

In fact, according to Ryan Rishaug, McDavid recently made some comments that are going to give some Oilers fans out there lots of pause.
While McDavid believes in the Oilers to win the Cup, he seems to have a lot of reservations about actually signing a deal right now.

Of course, with Toronto Maple Leafs fans praying for a miracle, it should come as no surprise that some are using these comments to suggest that McDavid will be a Leaf next season.
As it stands, odds are he'll stay with the Edmonton Oilers. However, if he truly does decide to leave, then you best believe the Maple Leafs will make a strong push for him.
No matter what, this will continue to be one of the biggest stories in the NHL.
