Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Morgan Rielly has been a stud to start the year, although things have taken a major turn following an update from Craig Berube.
Morgan Rielly was someone who took a lot of flak from the Toronto Maple Leafs' fanbase last season, and for good reason.
He wasn't the defenseman fans are typically used to. Offensively, Rielly wasn't producing at the same level he had in the past. It was disappointing, to say the least, and there were fears that he would be on a permanent decline for the rest of his career.
However, to start the season, Rielly has been quite good. He has six points in seven games and has even scored a couple of highlight-reel goals.
Morgan Rielly could miss some time
Unfortunately, the Maple Leafs just got some bad news about Morgan Rielly that could potentially derail this team's early-season hopes.
According to head coach Craig Berube, Rielly suffered an injury against the New Jersey Devils on Tuesday night. As a result, there is a real fear that the defenseman will not be able to play against the Buffalo Sabres on Friday.
I don't know yet for tomorrow
With the Leafs at a record of 3-3-1, and many panicking about this team's lack of success to start the year, you can't help but feel as though things just aren't going the Leafs' way.
Dakota Mermis was called up earlier today, and he could certainly be slotted into the linemate if need be, but that is a worst-case scenario.
An NHL season is never easy, but for the Toronto Maple Leafs, that has been especially true throughout the early part of the year.
