Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev is being placed on injured reserve, which has created an opportunity for a D-Man from the Toronto Marlies.
Chris Tanev is one of the best defensemen on the Toronto Maple Leafs. However, he went down with an injury on Tuesday night against the New Jersey Devils.
According to the Toronto Maple Leafs, they have called up
Dakota Mermis from the Toronto Marlies in his absence. Mermis will likely be the seventh defenseman until Tanev gets back.
This means
Philippe Myers has a strong chance of finally drawing into the Maple Leafs lineup for the first time this season.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have played some uninspired hockey to start the NHL season, and there is no denying that they could benefit greatly from an injection of energy.
Whether or not Philippe Myers or Dakota Mermis can provide something like this still very much remains to be seen, and for now, we are skeptical.
Philippe Myers gets his chance with the Toronto Maple Leafs
Myers was a fantastic seventh defenseman with the Maple Leafs last season and provided relief whenever a player got injured.
It is unfortunate that he has yet to get in the lineup. Although Friday against the Buffalo Sabres will be his time to shine.
At the end of the day, the Maple Leafs need something good to happen, as the start of this season has been a bit pathetic, to say the least.
Only time will tell whether or not this back-to-back against the Buffalo Sabres can usher in some much-needed good fortune.
