Montreal Canadiens goaltender Carey Price is unofficially retired from the NHL, although that isn't stopping the team from trading him to reduce their cap hit.
Carey Price is a legendary goaltender who certainly deserves all of the accolades he got with the Montreal Canadiens back in the day.
There are teams near the salary cap floor that could use Price's contract, even if he doesn't play. That said, it should come as no surprise that some teams want to get Price on their team.
Montreal Canadiens work on Carey Price trade
According to Marco D'Amico, the San Jose Sharks are one of the teams that are eyeing Price going forward.
Sources have heard the most amount of noise around the San Jose Sharks. Acquiring a contract like Price's would give them the necessary insurance to trade...higher priced players without dipping under the salary cap floor
Meanwhile, the Pittsburgh Penguins are also looking into Price, as a rebuild would certainly put them below the Cap floor eventually.
Another surprising team that was suggested...the Pittsburgh Penguins; although they are $12M above the salary cap floor...the Penguins could strip it down early and trade some vets
The Montreal Canadiens will have a hard time saying goodbye to Carey Price, but it is for a good cause.
Overall, Price was one of the best goalies of this generation, and he absolutely deserves credit for everything he ended up accomplishing.
Only time will tell who ends up with the legendary goalie.
