Toronto Maple Leafs superstar Mitch Marner is looking to get a new contract and an analytics firm has just unveiled how much he will make next year.
Mitch Marner has 93 points in 74 games and he has seven more games to hit 100 points for the first time in his career. This could be a major accomplishment that will come with a nice payday.
Mitch Marner contract negotiations to begin this summer
Numerous numbers have been thrown around as of late, although AFP Analytics has attempted to come to conclusions on what Marner's next contract will be worth.
It is believed that it will be at an AAV of $12.6 million which would be a contract worth over $100 million during the course of eight years. However, if a team overpays, they could get him for $14 million.
AFP Analytics projects Mitch Marner's next contract to come at $12.6M AAV over 8 years, but with the rising salary cap, he could push closer to $14M per season if he hits the open market.
With
Auston Matthews making $13.5 million per season, it feels unlikely that the Leafs would pay Marner more than that.
Given the fact that there have been no negotiations, it's impossible to say what the superstar forward is looking for right now, which creates even more anxiety.
That said, the Leafs are near and dear to Marner's heart which gives them a very good chance of retaining the star forward.
For now, fans can only sit back and wait to see if the two sides are able to come to an agreement. If not, it is going to be a long and arduous summer that may not go in the Leafs' favor.
