Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is negotiating a new contract with the team and on April Fools Day, some fans were led to believe the impossible happened.

Mitch Marner has yet to sign a contract extension with the Toronto Maple Leafs and some fans are getting antsy about it.
Of course, Marner is a sensational player and it makes sense that fans would want to see him on the team for years to come, thriving and succeeding.
For now, it seems like the superstar will only negotiate his deal after the season, and this has created a whole new wave of anxiety around the forward.

Mitch Marner April Fools Day prank

Today, some fans got their hopes up but they were actually duped by a cruel April Fools prank, courtesy of LeafsLatest on X.
The account took to social media this morning claiming that Marner had been signed to an eight-year deal at an AAV of $14.5 million.
The Maple Leafs are in the process of signing superstar forward Mitch Marner to an 8-year, $14.5M AAV contract.

Marner, who was set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer and was expected to test the open market, flips that idea and extends with his hometown Maple Leafs.

The 27-year-old, who is having a monster season-recording 23 goals and 68 assists for 91 points in 73 games so far-along with winning the 4 Nations Faceoff with Canada earlier in the winter, locks in his future to stay with his hometown Buds.
While this was a prank, one can only hope that we hear something similar in a few months from now.
Although we're sure the fans out there would much rather that number come down by a significant margin as $14.5 million is hard pill to swallow.
Either way, it is going to be fun to see what happens next as the Maple Leafs do their best to go deep into the playoffs.
If they want to be success then Mitch Marner is going to have to be a huge part of that success.
