The Toronto Maple Leafs could end up losing Mitch Marner in free agency and if that happens, the team is going to have to replace him with a star-level player.
However, he is a superstar and he is homegrown which makes him someone that the franchise will want to keep around for years to come.
Who are the Toronto Maple Leafs targeting in Free Agency
If the Maple Leafs are unable to re-sign Mitch Marner, then they will need to find themselves some other players to go after.
According to The Athletic's reporters Jonas Siegel and James Mirtle, there are a few big names that the team is considering and three of them are names that you will definitely recognize.
Patrick Kane, Brad Marchand, and Matt Duchene are all players that the Maple Leafs want to pursue when free agency rolls around, especially if Marner is gone.
Marchand was actually a trade target for the Leafs which makes this free agency news just a bit less surprising. Although it would still be wild to see him in a Toronto jersey.
Meanwhile, Duchene has 75 points this season and would be a fantastic player to pair with a guy like Auston Matthews or even William Nylander.
Lastly, but certainly not least, there is Patrick Kane who might be willing to leave Detroit when you consider how that team has not done anything since he got there.
Whatever the case may be, the Leafs have a ton of options and it is going to be fascinating to see what the franchise ultimately decides over these coming months.
