Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is looking for a new contract this Summer and there has ben quite a bit of hand-wringing about his free agency plans.

Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs have yet to sit down and have a real conversation about his contract, which is a huge point of contention right now.
Overall, the superstar forward could receive a contract worth over $13 million per season, although the Leafs are at least a little bit hesitant about doing that.
This has opened the door for other teams to sign Marner and Maple Leafs fans are certainly worried about how this could all turn out.

Will Mitch Marner stay with the Toronto Maple Leafs?

A former Assistant General Manager for the Florida Panthers, Mike Werier, wrote a piece for Puck Pedia where he claimed that Marner may just find himself with the San Jose Sharks.
Why? Because the team has a large crop of young talents who aren't getting paid a lot because they are all on rookie contracts.
"I think it will land them Marner."

Werier argues that the San Jose Sharks can make a great case to big-name players and if Marner isn't a possibility, they could even go after Matthew Knies.
"The other direction is to go all in this summer and break open the competitive window right now, understanding that the best way to build around Celebrini & Smith is to add more players like Celebrini and Smith.

To do that the Sharks could attack on two fronts: (1) sign a transformational free agent like Mitch Marner or Nikolaj Ehlers and (2) deploy an offer sheet with an AAV in the Wyatt Johnston range ($8M+) to lure an elite young player like JJ Peterka or Matthew Knies."

Losing Mitch Marner or Matthew Knies to the San Jose Sharks would be an absolute nightmare and we know the fans would never go for that.
Whether or not the Maple Leafs reign in this situation, still remains to be seen, and fans are not optimistic.
