Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner is going to be a free agent on July 1st and NHL reporter Dennis Bernstein believes a new team is interested.

Mitch Marner has been dominant this season as the Toronto Maple Leafs forward has scored a total of 86 points in 70 games and is having the best season of his career.
However, the Maple Leafs are hypersensitive when it comes to all things Marner due to the fact that he is up for a new contract at the end of the season.
It seems like he won't negotiate a deal until the season is over and that is not particularly encouraging for the Leafs who would rather him not become a free agent.

Dennis Bernstein on where Mitch Marner will end up

There are a ton of teams out there who would be able to afford a $14 million AAV, and the Maple Leafs are not one of them which makes this a tricky situation.
Recently, on Leafs Morning Take, Nick Alberga and David Pagnotta spoke to Los Angeles Kings reporter Dennis Bernstein about Marner and whether or not the black and silver are interested.
As Bernstein explains, the Kings have the cap space and they are in the market for a showstopping star forward who could give the team some extra oomph on offense.

There are a few teams looking at Mitch Marner including the Chicago Blackhawks and the Utah Hockey Club.
If the Leafs cannot get something done then one of these teams will swoop in and despite Marner's ties to the city, going elsewhere will prove to be attractive for him whether we like it or not.
This is going to be a fascinating storyline to watch as the season draws to a close and the fans will be on the edge of their seats.
Hopefully, the Leafs are able to figure something out here because losing Marner would just simply be unacceptable.
