Mitch Marner has been having an awesome season with the Toronto Maple Leafs as he has 85 points in 69 games and has the potential to reach 100 points for the first time.
Mitch Marner took a page out of an old Toronto Maple Leafs playbook
The captain won the faceoff against Ryan O'Reilly and immediately got the puck to Mitch who rifled a shot without hesitation.
While speaking to the media, the Mitch Marner admitted that he was actually inspired by the likes of James Van Riemsdyk and Tyler Bozak. Not the names you would have expected.
«I honestly have to give a lot of credit to Bozey and JVR for that one, playing with those guys for the years I did.»
Marner went on to say that he and Matthews had talked about recreating the play but they had never made a formal plan of any kind.
«I wouldn't say it was a set play, but, you know, we talked a lot about trying to figure that out and do it. I think they scored a couple of times on it themselves in the years they were together here.
So, that kind of just came about. I just wanted to try something new at the faceoff dot. Tone was lucky enough to snap it back to me, and I just tried to get it off quickly-and it worked out.»
Tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs are in action against the Philadelphia Flyers where they will look to try and get back in the win column.
This is an important game and fans will be hoping for something solid out of both Marner and Matthews.
