Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner both hit major career milestones tonight as the Toronto Maple Leafs took on the Buffalo Sabres with the Atlantic Division at stake.
The stakes were huge for the
Toronto Maple Leafs tonight as they took on the Buffalo Sabres in a game that could win them the Atlantic Division.
Furthermore, the team has guaranteed a first-round matchup against the Ottawa Senators which is great news as the Battle of Ontario is on.
However, it was also a big night for Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner who reached two major milestones within minutes of one another.
Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner come up big
Firstly, Mitch Marner scored the goal to make the game 2-0 and it just so happened to be his 100th point of the season.
This is the first time in his career that Marner has hit 100 points which is a truly incredible accomplishment that he should absolutely be proud of.
Meanwhile, Auston Matthews scored on an empty net a few minutes later and this was the 400th goal of his NHL career. He has done this in less games than Alex Ovechkin.
If you are a Maple Leafs fan, you know just how monumental this kind of achievement is and we're sure Matthews is feeling pretty good about it.
The Maple Leafs are riding exceptionally high right now and this is good stuff heading into the postseason.
If they keep the good times going here, then perhaps they can go deeper in the postseason than they have in years. There are a lot of fans dying to see it.
