Auston Matthews Sends Gut-Wrenching Message to Mitch Marner After Game 7

Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews had some big words for Mitch Marner following a disastrous performance in Game 7 that has fans absolutely distraught.
Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner have been the primary leaders on the Toronto Maple Leafs for years now, and they have absolutely nothing to show for it.
This was especially true after last night, with the Toronto Maple Leafs losing to the Florida Panthers by a score of 6-1 in a Game 7.
It was a truly pitiful result that every single player on the Maple Leafs should be greatly ashamed of.

Now, the focus is on free agency, where Mitch Marner could very well walk away for absolutely nothing.
With that possibility on the top of everyone's mind, Auston Matthews was asked about his linemate and his feelings towards him right now.
We obviously love him to death.
As for Marner, he was asked about the Leafs, and based on his comments in the past tense, it would appear as though he is going to be leaving.
It's meant everything. You know, maybe a risky pick on a small kid from Toronto, and I've been forever grateful to wear this Maple Leaf and be a part of this - with some of the great legends here - and to wear this jersey. I've never taken a day for granted and have always, always loved it.
If this is how it ends for Marner and the Leafs, then it is hard to say that it was truly worth it. Marner's performance when it mattered was awful.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs will be able to retain Marner, and if replacing him with someone similar is even an option.
