Bombshell Three-Team Mitch Marner Trade Fails Epically, and We Have the Details

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner has been the subject of trade talks, with the Carolina Hurricanes and the Las Vegas Golden Knights being the biggest players.
Mitch Marner was the subject of numerous rumors during the trade deadline. In fact, it is well documented that Marner and Mikko Rantanen were almost swapped for one another.
The Carolina Hurricanes would have gotten Marner, and the Leafs would have had Rantanen on an eight-year contract. It would have been perfect for all sides, but Mitch declined.
Now, James Mirtle is reporting that the Las Vegas Golden Knights were trying to get in on a three-team trade. This would have seen Marner go to Las Vegas, while Rantanen would have come to the Leafs.
However, due to improper assets from the Hurricanes and Golden Knights, the trade was dead on arrival and never took shape.
There have been reports that earlier last year, the Golden Knights tried to trade for Marner prior to the 2024-25 season. However, the Leafs wanted William Karlsson and Shea Theodore, which was a no-go.
Now, the Golden Knights are prime candidates to sign the superstar forward when free agency rolls around on July 1st.

While Mitch Marner has not ruled out the Toronto Maple Leafs, the assumption is that he is going to officially move on this summer.
The Los Angeles Kings, Florida Panthers, Golden Knights, and even the Utah Mammoth appear to be near the top of his list.
Only time will tell what the forward decides and whether or not the Leafs are going to be on the losing end of all of it.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are embarking on a very important offseason, and the Marner situation will be the first thing they need to figure out.
