Maple Leafs Had a Ridiculous Ask From the Golden Knights in Mitch Marner Trade Negotiations

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was part of trade negotiations with the Las Vegas Golden Knights last summer, and the requests were wild.
With Mitch Marner likely on his way out of Toronto this summer, the reports surrounding the forward have gotten more and more interesting.
For instance, we have been hearing from some reporters that the Las Vegas Golden Knights and Toronto Maple Leafs engaged in trade talks last summer.
In fact, it was stated that Marner was even willing to waive his no-trade clause for the Golden Knights.

Unfortunately, these trade talks ended up falling through, and now, we know it is all because of what Leafs general manager Brad Treliving demanded in return.
The Leafs wanted Shea Theodore, a stud defenseman who would have done wonders on the team's back end. However, the Golden Knights were not welcoming that idea, and the trade was nixed.
There's a lot of rumours about Marner and Vegas... I do believe, on some level last year, the Maple Leafs and Vegas talked about a trade... I think there were two reasons it never got close. Number one, Toronto was interested in Shea Theodore and the Golden Knights were not interested in trading him... The second thing is, there was no guarantee Marner was going to agree to anything.
Now, Vegas is considered to be at the top of Marner's list once free agency rolls around on July 1st.
There has been a lot of talk about whether or not Marner will allow the Leafs to complete a sign-and-trade. This would allow the forward to sign for eight years, while also giving the Leafs something in return.
This is going to be a truly fascinating situation, and Leafs fans are understandably very anxious about all of it.
Only time will tell whether or not the Leafs can get things off of the ground here and have themselves a respectable summer.
