Mitch Marner Reportedly Has a Diabolical Plan to Screw Over the Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner could leave the franchise in free agency and still help out the team, but it seems unlikely that he would ever do that.
Mitch Marner and the Toronto Maple Leafs are currently headed towards a divorce. Although the two might stay together, from the outside looking in, it would appear healthier for both sides to move on.
However, according to NHL insider Darren Dreger, the Leafs might just want to keep thinking and brainstorming.
Will the Toronto Maple Leafs trade Mitch Marner?
While speaking to OverDrive 1050 on TSN, Dreger claimed that Marner's camp isn't too interested in having his rights traded, and they would likely decline for this to happen.
This completely shuts down an avenue of attack for the Leafs. Now, it is likelier than ever that they will lose Marner for absolutely nothing.
There has been market speculation about trading Marner's rights. Would he be interested if it was going to the right fit because in that case it would be a sign-and-trade? I don't think that that motivates the Marner side too much.
Of course, this is the risk that you run in the business of hockey. It is not fair, but these things do, indeed, happen, and you have to be ready for it.
Having said that, this is going to be a difficult summer, and only time will tell whether or not the team gets better or worse.
However, if there is a mass exodus of top players, then next season could be a bit of a rough one for the Leafs.
