Brad Treliving Just Confirmed Mitch Marner's Fate With the Toronto Maple Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving spoke with the media today, and it was here that he was asked about Mitch Marner's future with the franchise.
Brad Treliving of the Toronto Maple Leafs held a press conference this morning where he spoke about the future of the team.
Of course, the big question on everyone's mind had to do with Mitch Marner and his future with the team.
However, Terry Koshan of the Toronto Sun had a unique question. Instead of asking whether or not Marner wants to return to the Leafs, he asked if the Leafs want Marner to return.
Is Mitch Marner coming back to the Toronto Maple Leafs?
This led to a stunning answer from Treliving, who practically refused to answer. Instead of giving it to the media straight, he simply said Marner is a great player.
Additionally, he noted that the team is still in the process of making a decision on the future.
«We're in that process right now,» he said of figuring out what's next with Marner.

Earlier in the press conference, Treliving agreed that the DNA of the team has to go through some changes right now.
There's some DNA that needs to change in our team.
These comments suggest that Mitch Marner is as good as gone. At this point, the feeling appears to be mutual, and it just doesn't make sense to keep the marriage going.
Whether or not both sides have a change of heart remains to be seen. But for now, it seems clear these two would be better off apart.
