Months ago, the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Boston Bruins engaged in a trade, and it appears as though Brad Treliving may have made a huge mistake.

At the trade deadline, the Toronto Maple Leafs were desperate to make some moves that could turn them into real championship contenders.
As a result, they decided to move on from prospect Fraser Minten. They sent him and a first-round pick to the Boston Bruins for defenseman Brandon Carlo.
While Carlo has been good for the team, he has already been forced to deal with various trade rumors. Meanwhile, Minten is getting a fresh start with a team that needs him.

Fraser Minten a stud for the Boston Bruins

Andrew Fantucchio of Boston Hockey Now, the future is bright for Minten. Recently, it has become clear that the forward's defensive acumen is needed.
With that in mind, there is a real sense that Minten could be playing in the bottom-six for the majority of the season.
The focal point of this season for the Bruins is re-establishing their defensive identity, which plays perfectly into the hands of Fraser Minten.

While many of the other young hopefuls will have to rely on their ability on offense to make the team, Minten's strong two-way play makes him a front-runner to earn a roster spot.

The 21-year-old arrived in Boston last season at the trade deadline from the Toronto Maple Leafs as part of the return for Brandon Carlo, and was called up not too long after.

Minten dressed six games for the Bruins down the stretch. Although he recorded only one goal, he showed his acumen for playing in his own zone by anchoring the third line and logging time on the penalty kill. He could very well take on the role once again this year.

Given the fact that the Bruins need young players for the future, it makes sense that they would want a guy like Minten to be part of their plans for the long haul.
Unfortunately, for the Leafs, this trade may have been a massive unforced error. At the end of the day, this is a team that also needs to get younger.
Minten still has developing to do and could have been a solid addition to the team's bottom-six, which everyone knows needs to improve.
Only time will tell who truly comes out on top here and if the Leafs can keep Brandon Carlo.
