Toronto Maple Leafs general manager Brad Treliving has expressed disappointment with the franchise, and the reasons are pretty apparent at this point.
Since that time, Treliving has made a few moves, including trades for
Matias Maccelli and
Dakota Joshua. However, everyone he has brought in has been for the bottom six.
There isn't a single new player on the roster who could be a consistent top-line guy. This is a bit of an issue, and Treliving knows it.
Brad Treliving makes it clear with the Toronto Maple Leafs
The general manager wants to be aggressive, but he has yet to secure himself a top-six forward, and the clock is ticking.
I'd imagine that the Toronto Maple Leafs aren't done. If you think back to the summer and all the different names that have been moved, they've probably been in on or had conversations about 60-75% of those players. So I think it's been, in some ways, for Brad Treliving, a little bit of a disappointing summer because he wants to be so active and aggressive, but yet hasn't necessarily gotten anything [big] done.
That said, there are no guarantees that Treliving will get what he wants. At the end of the day, the Leafs don't have many assets to actually trade.
Ultimately, things are not going to be easy for the Toronto Maple Leafs going forward, and Brad Treliving is going to have to figure things out.
He has a plan, but executing that plan is a lot easier said than done.
