Earlier today, Cayden Primeau was claimed off waivers by the Carolina Hurricanes, although the former Toronto Maple Leafs netminder has already been demoted.
Cayden Primeau was put on waivers by the Toronto Maple Leafs on Friday following a disappointing three-game stint with the team.
It was a move that was expected, especially since the Hurricanes have been in need of some goaltending depth. Although it's certainly not the opportunity Primeau was hoping for.
Cayden Primeau goes down to the AHL
Primeau will not be staying in the NHL. Instead, according to Elliotte Friedman, the goaltender has been sent down to the Minors.
He will now get to play for the Chicago Wolves of the AHL. Overall, the Wolves are in need of some goaltending, and Primeau will help with that.
Unfortunately, his performance has not been good enough for the NHL, so it makes complete sense that he would be sent down.
Whether or not the Toronto Maple Leafs will regret this move remains to be seen, although we don't see a world in which they would.
They are about to get
Joseph Woll back, and when paired with
Anthony Stolarz, this is one of the best goaltending tandems in the entire NHL.
As for the Hurricanes, they could be forced to call up Primeau depending on how things go with their current crop of goaltenders.
Only time will tell whether or not he can find his way back up to the NHL.
