Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Chris Tanev has been out for a couple of weeks now and it doesn't feel like his injury has been getting any better as of late.
Chris Tanev injury update
Yesterday, the Toronto Maple Leafs held a practice in Utah and while Tanev was on the ice, there was some bad news courtesy of head coach Craig Berube.
Essentially, Berube recognized that Tanev is not where he wants to be in terms of his health and he wants to take more time before getting back into a game.
"He's not where he wants to be. We gotta be careful ... It's unfortunate because we do miss him. He's a big part of our team but at the same time we want to do what's best for the player & the player's gotta do what's best for himself."
Chris Tanev has easily been general manager Brad Treliving's best acquisition since becoming the team's GM.
The defenseman currently has 17 points this season and a net rating of +26 which is simply sensational. He is also a shot blocking machine which will be perfect for the postseason.
Having said that, if you are the Maple Leafs, you can't help but be a little bit concerned especially with the playoffs right around the corner.
Now is not the time to be having injury problems, and Chris Tanev is absolutely a guy you need in the trenches when the elimination games start coming around.
