Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube could not help but be brutally honest about his goaltending on Saturday, including Anthony Stolarz.
If you have been paying attention to the Toronto Maple Leafs this season, then you know that goaltending has not been amazing.
In fact, last night, Stolarz was pulled against the Boston Bruins after allowing four goals on 19 shots. Now, he has a save percentage of .889 and a goals-against average of 3.35.
Craig Berube gets honest about Anthony Stolarz
After last night's loss to the Bruins, head coach Craig Berube spoke to the media, where he gave his opinion on Stolarz's performance.
Simply put, he was not impressed and challenged his goaltender to be a lot better. Although he had a similar message for the team.
We all got to be better, including the goalie, everybody.
Berube went on to say that a lot of the goaltending issues have to do with the defense, which isn't playing as tight as they did last season.
I don't feel we're as tight defensively as we were last year. There's good stretches of it but not enough. The last goal is just a turnover. I don't know what you want the goalie to do on that play.
If the Maple Leafs want to win more games this season, they are going to need to figure out their goaltending woes sooner rather than later.
Until then, this team is going to continue to lose games, and find themselves at a deeper deficit in the Atlantic Division standings.
