In more positive news, the Leafs snapped a three-game losing streak on Monday night with a shootout win against the Utah Hockey Club.
The team actually blew a three-goal lead which had fans on edge, although it was ultimately Mitch Marner who came through with the shootout winner. Talk about good timing.
After the game, Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube spoke about his superstar forward and what he thought about the winning goal.
Berube brushed it off in a sense, stating that these are the kinds of things he expects from Marner at this point given the standard that has been set over the years.
Some Maple Leafs fans might disagree with the notion that Marner is a clutch player who comes through in big moments.
His playoff resume has not been great and it is ultimately one of the reasons why the Leafs are at least a bit hesitant about giving him a massive contract.
That said, it is good to see Marner getting some big time goals like this as it could very well give him some confidence as the postseason approaches.
Only time will tell whether or not his contract situation can be resolved or if it will end in heartbreak.
