Toronto Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner was bad in Game 7 against the Florida Panthers, and this could have major implications for free agency.
Mitch Marner has been one of the most egregious playoff droppers in the history of the Toronto Maple Leafs, and that was evident on Sunday in Game 7.
Darren Dreger gets real about Mitch Marner
After Game 7, Darren Dreger was speaking about Mitch Marner's impending contract negotiations, and he dropped a bit of a bombshell.
Essentially, months ago, the Leafs would have been okay paying Marner $13.5 million per season. However, after last night's game, it is likely that the Leafs no longer want to do that.
"I think that Toronto was comfortable at one point of paying Mitch Marner on a mega extension of eight years, upwards of $13.5 million per year."
Overall, the Maple Leafs front office has some massive decisions to make, and you wouldn't blame them at all if they made a real change to this team's core.
Guys like Marner and even
John Tavares have not been good enough when it matters most. Having said that, we could very well see a swift change very soon.
If Marner's comments from last night mean anything, then it is likely that he is done for good with this franchise.
While Leafs fans will have mixed emotions about that, it is hard to argue that Marner absolutely, positively, needs to stay.
